Overlooking Loch Fyne

this stone stands sentinel
across land and loch
tide and moon

marking where we lived
before the world
became consumed
became confused

living with the land
sweet chestnuts, hazel
fish hauled up from the loch
ore given meaning in metals

alone now
the stone remains testament
to forgotten names
guardian of more than place

unwilling to tell us
what has been lost
until we are ready
to hear
